We next went onto Box Office Guru in order to find out what horror movies have been selling well. As you can see, Paranormal Activity had a gross profit of 19,617,650 in the opening weekend of it being in cinemas. You can also see that it has a total gross profit of 107,918,810 which is partly due to the fact it was not an expensive film, but was also massively successful, which means that as our horror will be low-budget, we would hopefully sell well. We also saw this as a selling idol as we feel that making profit within the opening weekend is key and therefore this is a good sub-genre to use to gain this.

Sinister was also a major movie influence within our thoughts and ideas because a few of our shots were involved in the film and paid homage to them. We have all seen the film and feel that its one of our most favourite horror films that we have seen. Therefore, using it as an influence should help us with inspiration. It is also a current film and yet it still has that fear factor which we feel is vital in a horror film. I also feel that the tension is built in this film and this can be showed very clearly, this is also something that we want to display in our opening sequence.
This film is from 2012. RG |

This is the ending scene to the film Sinister. The child is actually the killer in this film as she has sort of been possessed by a strange character. There is an interesting shot early on as there is a man led on the floor and the shot is also from the floor. The lightening in the background is a very common convention in horrors, especially when something bad is happening. It adds the effect of bad weather to set the mood. The music is eerie and quite disturbing which makes the audience feel uncomfortable and awkward. You don't get to actually see the killings done by the child but the tapes that are shown indicate what has happened as there is blood on her and on the walls and it also links with the rest of the film as tapes show how the other families have been killed. The tape then goes on to show the other children that have killed their families about half way through the video. The blood on the girls hand at 2:18 looks very effective and this gave us a massive influence to use for the ending shot where the victims hand drops into a pool of blood. At 2:46 it show the strange character and this also gave us a massive influence as we used his face as a template to create our killers face. We feel that the white face with black features has a very good and scary effect. JT

This is the ending sequence of the film Paranormal Activity 4. We had a lot of inspiration from this as we wanted to use the paranormal sub genre, we wanted to use this as it creates a lot more suspense and tension within the audience. At 0:21 the women is shouting out the name of the missing person, we use this in our video as when Hannah goes out to see Ricky, she says "Rick, Rick" and this is similar and also adds a lot of tension. Loud pitch screaming is used in this ending sequence and we use this in our sequence as well, it makes the audience feel scared for the women as she is helpless and has no one to save her. At around the time of 0:59 the women in the scene is heavily breathing and this shows that she is very scared and is not sure what to do. We use this in our opening sequence also and this Paranormal Activity 4 sequence is where we got some inspiration from. the whole sequence is filmed in a house and so is ours. This creates tension in the scene as it shows that there is no safety and the victim can do nothing to save herself. At 2:00 minutes on the clip the women is outside in the dark with a light, very similar to Hannah in our opening sequence. In this sequence the women turns around and see's the killer with her light. This is where we got our inspiration for our own clip at the end as Hannah turns around and see's the killer, by this time she has no chance of survival. LB
